So-called alternative medicine (SCAM) is plagued by fallacious thinking like no other area of healthcare. Seemingly logical arguments thus mislead the public into believing that SCAM is effective and safe and worth a try. In my talk, I use my experience in SCAM research to discuss some of the most commonly employed fallacies. I conclude that these fallacies constitute attacks on rationality and progress in healthcare. The best antidote against them is critical thinking.
